Before moving into Afton Oaks, I had already worked at the nursing home Colonial Manor of Elma, so I knew the people and the environment well—and that made my decision to move in much easier. I’ve always loved this place, and now that I live here, I can honestly say it’s even better than I expected.
I have arthritis in my knees and neuropathy in my feet, so my balance isn’t the best. I rely on a walker to get around, and I knew I needed a place where I’d feel safe and supported. At Afton Oaks, the staff takes such good care of me. Every Thursday, they do my laundry, clean my apartment, and even remake my bed—little things that make a big difference.
The staff here are kind, helpful, and many of them I’ve known for years. They take me over to the nursing home for church and music events, always making sure I get there comfortably with a wheelchair. The meals are wonderful, and there’s always something going on—games, activities, and even special celebrations like birthdays with pizza for everyone.
One of my favorite memories was when a few of us went on a golf cart ride around town. We had a sack lunch at the park, and it was just such a thoughtful, fun outing.
If someone asked me whether they should move into Afton Oaks, I’d say, “Absolutely.” It’s not just a facility—it’s a home filled with people who truly care.
